چکیده

In this paper we present our work on the construction of composite services for distributed computing environments. In this work we take our theoretical results in formal techniques for exogenous coordination of software components and we apply these techniques to existing practical approaches to distributed systems in the area of service-oriented computing. We address major issues such as (a) the implications of synchrony on the way one designs software, (b) the bridging of protocols with fundamentally different coordination models, and (c) the enriching of theoretically sound models so that they become usable in practical applications. In this paper we report our progress on each of these issues and we discuss the work that still lies ahead of us.

Interaction Compatibility: An Essential Ingredient for Service Composition

Common to Grid services, Web Services, software agents and software components is that they are independently built and provide services aimed for composition. A key issue is whether or not the services in a composite system can interact with each other “sensibly” and as orchestrated by the enclosing composition. In this paper, we introduce an approach where we can specify individual services’ ...

Service Supervision Patterns: Reusable Adaption of Composite Services

A composite Web service provided as a “cloud” service should make its constituent Web services transparent to users. However, existing frameworks for composite Web services cannot realize such transparency because they lack capability of adapting changes of behaviors of constituents Web services and business rules of service providers. Service Supervision, proposed in the previous work, allows ...

Architectural frameworks for automated content adaptation to mobile devices based on open-source technologies

The Web and enterprise information systems are gradually increasing their reach to a wide range of mobile devices. Although analysts hope for a breakthrough in the popularity of mobile solutions, field studies show that, except for Japan and South Korea, there is still a large gap between the technical capabilities of wireless devices/networks and the adoption of mobile services for business an...

Beyond-Sniff – a Framework-Based Component System for Cooperative Software Engineering Environments

During the last seven years we developed Sniff and Beyond-Sniff. Sniff is a single-user, one-process programming environment that was implemented on top of the ET++ application framework. Beyond-Sniff is an environment for cooperative software engineering. It consists of a component bus and an open set of seamlessly integrated components (services and tools). In this article, we present the fra...

Tailoring Integrated Software Engineering Environments using Tool Integration Frameworks

A recent trend in improved support for software engineering activities is the increasing use of integrated software engineering environments (ISEEs), in which various specific software engineering tools cooperate to facilitate the software development process. A number of integration frameworks which purport to support cooperation between tools have been proposed and marketed. This paper descri...
